Highly active homogeneous and supported catalysts for the hydrogenation of olefins, dienes, and acetylenes to saturated hydrocarbons were obtained from platinum complexes with higher aliphatic amines.
Olefins with a terminal double bond are hydrogenated with the greatest rate. The hydrogenation of cycloolefins, α-olefins, and linear or cyclic dienes proceeds with zero-order kinetics, while the hydrogenation of disubstituted olefins and acetylenes proceeds with first-order kinetics.
