Claisen rearrangement of N-alkenyl- and N-cycloalkenyltetrahydroquinolines by treatment with Lewis and Bronsted acids affords 8-alkenyl- and 8-cycloalkenyltetrahydroquinolines in yields of up to 85%.
Cyclization of the compounds obtained by treatment with polyphosphoric acid, palladium complexes, or UV irradiation has given some tri- and tetracyclic compounds.
