The kinetics of the interaction of 3-phenylpropyl-p-toluenesulfonate with 16 alcohols was investigated at 40-70°. The pseudo-first-order rate constants increased in the presence of alkali, in proportion to its concentration, which confirms the bimolecular mechanism of the reaction. The results obtained confirm the advisability of the joint use of the Taft and Koppel-Pal'm equations to generalize the data on the kinetics of solvolysis in alcohols, which play a dual role - reagent and solvent.
