Abstract: The main mechanisms for the formation of the porous structure of xerogels of poorly soluble and hardly crystallizing IV Group metal oxides are discussed. The formation and changes of the microporous constituent of the texture are determined by the ratio between the rates of hydrolysis of the initial salt and the formation of the heterogeneous phase. The mesoporous constituent is controlled by a charge state of the dispersion. The amorphous component deaggregates at the beginning of crystallization. This process is followed by the secondary aggregation of the crystalline constituent of the xerogel framework.
