Abstract: It was found that in the reaction of H2S with the oxidized surface of Sn-Mo oxide catalyst at 293 K, it dissociates at both S-H bonds with the participation of a Mo-containing surface compound and exchange of O2- ions for S2- ions, resulting in reduction of this compound with the formation of MoS2 and liberation of water. Some of the S2- ions are simultaneously oxidized into sulfate-like structures at room temperature. It was shown that the sulfidized form of the Mo-containing compound is easily reoxidized by reverse exchange between S2- and O2-. Water slows the exchange reaction between O2- and S2-.
