Abstract:
The reaction products of γ-Al2O3 with SO3 (formed in a static system at 25-450°) were characterized by chem. anal., 27Al NMR, and x-ray diffraction. Absorption of SO3 causes amorphization of part of the γ-Al2O3 and formation of x-ray amorphous products. The sp. surface of the products decreases with increasing sulfate content. The specific activity for 1-butene isomerization is constant over a wide range of composition and equal to the activity of bulk crystalline Al2(SO4)3 calcined at 650°.
